PNG Trip Review

•December 17, 2009 • 6 Comments

By now I am sure everyone knows that myself, Mark and Mike Fletcher recently spend on of the best weeks of our lives ( well mine anyway ) onboard the True North in Papua New Guinea. That week I would say was one of the best weeks travel wise I have ever had, and I have had a few. The people, the culture, the scenery, the boat, the staff on the boat, my roomy ( he was some video hack from WA, but done an ok job with what was given to him ) and not to mention the food, cold beer and the all round good vibes that this boat generates, was what made it so freaking awesome.  I would do another trip tomorrow if I could.

It is an absolute credit to Mark and his business partner Craig how smoothly they have this boat running, not a hitch at all. An experience on True North is by no means cheap, but I am a big believer in you get what you pay for, and in this respect, True North in no way lets you down. It was an experience I will remember forever an one I hope to relive someday.

A big thanks must go to Mark for helping me get on this boat and making me feel so welcome, but I am sure it is the same with all guests and to Mike, well for being just Mike ( including all the girlie whinging and bitching that is part of his package ) LOL.

If anyone is thinking of getting on this boat, DO IT, DO IT NOW… you will not be disappointed with your decision ! !

For anyone that is interested, you can view more of my images from the trip here

PNG, over and OUT ! ! !

PNG Islands

•December 11, 2009 • 6 Comments

While the boat moored just off these little islands, Mark, MIke and myself got a tender boat ashore to do a little exploring. I was kind of expecting some volleyball named WILSON to turn up, just liek in the Tom Hanks movie, but all that happened was a PNG family got blown off course and ended up there. The father of this family, obviously had his kids best interest at heart when we asked him if he needed food, all he wanted was cigarettes…mmmmm

Another one of the excursions we did from True North was to this waterfall that literally came straight out of the wall, not like most waterfalls that fall down, this one came out of the wall.

PNG Jungle

As well all jumped in the tenders to head up the Savoli River, we were told that it was possibly the longest tender drive of the trip, but everyone said “Hell Yeah, Im coming “”As we got to the river mouth, it was pretty clear that this was gonna be a pretty special little excursion. The water in the river has to be seen to be believed, it is the bluest water I have seen anywhere. There were people just doing ther own thing (see pic above ) and their were familys along banks waving and welcoming us to thier own little slice of paradise. One you get to the end of the river , its a small hike up hill to the blue hole…..

PNG from the Air

•November 30, 2009 • 16 Comments

When we were in PNG recently, I had the chance to get up in the chopper ( sorry Mark ) to go flying around Rabaul. Rabaul was once voted as one of the prettiest harbours in the world and you can see how that may have been the case, but not today… it is covered in ash from an active volcano. The volcano was erupting the day we were flying around and you can see the smoke bellowing out of it in the photos. To fly around this area so close to it was amazing….. After leaving this area and only about a 5 minute flight were these beautiful island, from memory called The Duke of York Islands. To go from one extreme to the other in such a short distance was amazing. Well worth the money getting up there to check it out ! ! !

A few PNG snapshots

1: Mike Fletcher at work.. He asked me to take this for him, something about if Mark could see him working, then his gig on the boat would be safe….. Your gig is safe mate after seeing the promo video you did… Your BEST effort so far

2: The Noipous village Kitchen area.. Just off to the side of this was there oven… A big rock fueled bonfire type setup that cooked all their food.. Very primitive but functional

3: A dentists worst nightmare… check out his Fangs… and not a bloody care in the world, I love PNG
